Course Objectives for 67-301

Fall 2014

At the end of this course, students will:

  • (LO1) Understand the role of standards in data communications and networking;
  • (LO2) Describe and explain the benefits of standardized protocol architectures and the role of each layer in the OSI and TCP/IP protocol suite.
  • (LO3) Describe and explain the need, functionality, and key elements of SMTP, IMAP, HTTP, DNS, SSH and TELNET.
  • (L04) Describe and explain the need, functionality, and key elements of Internet addressing and routing with both IPv4 and IPv6.
  • (L05) Describe and explain the need, functionality, and key elements of local area networks (LANs) and common standards.
  • (L06) Describe and explain the functionality and key elements of Ethernet networks, including bridges, hubs, layer 2 switches, and layer 3 switches.
  • (L07) Describe and explain the need and key elements of computer and network security, including threats and common security measures including IPSEC, SSL, IDS, and Firewalls.
